I'm on my third house in about the last five years. We've painted the last two of them almost room for room and am working on the newest one now. Typically, we use Behr paints from Home Depot. We found them to be among the easiest to paint with. Now that we're in Lewisburg, Behr is no longer available.

We finally found the Sherwin Williams in town. We've been using their Emerald and Classic lines. Emerald for walls. Classic for trim. Honestly, the classic is probably good enough for walls. The results are much better. We're able to get complete coverage with two coats - with no additional touchups required. The colors are true. They have an extensive color wall.

Sherwin Williams will have 40% off sales at least twice a year. Sign up for their customer program and they'll mail you coupons occasionally for 40% off as well. If you know you have an upcoming paint job, buy it on sale when you see it, and take the paint back for color later. This prices them comparatively close to anything at Lowes - with fewer coats and much less headaches. I usually buy on sale and keep four cans of wall paint and two cans of trim as stock since I'm in a house that still needs lots of rooms painted.

We even found that there is less tape pull off than the Behr line. This was always a problem given the rubber nature of Behr's top paints. Betwen Behr and Sherwin Williams, we've actually decided Sherwin Williams is the better paint.

Basically, we're now a Sherwin Williams household. This particular store has great staff as well. The actually know what they are talking about and will help you make good decisions you will be happy with later. Unfortunately, this kind of server is hit or miss at Lowes - especially since the Lowes staff is picking the best of a bad lot.

Do yourself a huge favor and get your paints here instead of Lowes.

I tried several paints brands from Lowes (including the highest grade in the Valspar line and the Sherwin-Williams HGTV line). They were all horrible to use. The paint went on uneven, bubbled out (leaving empty spots), and required three or more coats and still had unpainted spots. Also, the colors were never quite what we expected.
